1936 Winchester Model 52 Target w/ Factory Scope Blocks and Period Redfield Receiver Sight SOLD
Description:
The Winchester Model 52 .22 rifle has long been considered one of the finest American-made rimfire target rifles ever made. Manufactured from 1919 to 1979 with over 125,000 rifles made in the many variations offered, it was a huge success for Winchester and is a sought-after collectible today. This example is an original Target Model and features a 28" inch barrel with factory installed scope blocks, a target-style Walnut stock, a 5-shot magazine, and a "Speedlock" trigger (introduced in 1929). The original front sight blade has been swapped for a brass model, and the original ladder-style rear sight has been removed in favor of a period-correct Redfield receiver sight. The serial number of this 52 Target is 35,017, making it's date of manufacture 1936. This Winchester has great looking original blue finish with very little actual wear showing on the receiver or barrel. The factory blue finish rates 85% with the deductions coming from tiny specs scattered around where surface rust was removed, and mainly from the trigger guard/floorplate area where the finish has flaked or worn off and browning. The bore in this rifle is spectacular. It appears bright and clean, with prominent sharp rifling showing. It is completely free from pits or erosion. The original American Walnut stock is in excellent condition overall. It is completely free from cracks or repairs, or anything outside of some minor handling marks. It is an attractive stock and still has the original checkered steel buttplate intact, still nice and tight to the wood. The adjustable Redfield receiver sight that was installed on this 52 is in working order and frankly look really good mounted on this rifle. The action on this Model 52 works nice and smooth and locks up tight, and the "Speedlock" trigger is excellent. It breaks cleanly without any grit or slop. If you have been wanting to add one of these sought-after American classics to your collection this Model 52 Target would be a great choice. It should shoot with the very best of them without spending a fortune!
