Winchester Model 70 - 1956, FACTORY 99%, .300 H & H MAGNUM, NICE!
Description:
Winchester Model 70 .300 H&H Rifle
1956, FACTORY 99%, .300 H & H MAGNUM, NICE!
General Specs: Winchester, Year 1956, .300 H & H, 7lbs 15oz, Bolt Action Rifle
Serial Number: 382967
What a great pre-64 Model 70 in the highly desirable .300 Holland & Holland Magnum caliber. Only 6% of total production in the Model 70 was in the .300 H & H and there are grand reasons to want one. First, many buyers and shooters of the pre-64 Model 70 are nostalgic, romantic types. Developed in 1926 as one of the first fast .30 caliber cartridges it was a huge improvement over the .30-06 or .303 British, pushing a 150 grain slug at over 3300fps, a 180 grain bullet at over 3000fps, and a 200 grain over 2800 out of the standard 26" barrel. What many don't know is that the .300 H & H is known to be the softest shooting of the fast .30's, amongst the most accurate .30 magnums ever developed, and hands down the best feeding round of them all. When you need to rack that second shot, nothing feeds like a .300 H & H with its tapered case. This rifle, sn382967 built in 1956 with 26" barrel is in outstanding condition. The barrel retains 98% factory blue with mirror perfect bore, clean sharp lettering, factory Lyman rear sight and front sight with hood intact, and just a few tiny handling marks. The action retains 99% factory blue, excellent screws, trigger guard has 98% factory blue, factory drilled and tapped for scope mounts with no extra holes, a crisp trigger, and the floor plate is 98% with just a little edge wear. The stock retains nearly all of its original factory finish, factory sling swivels, 13 1/2" LOP to original steel butt plate, no cracks or splits anywhere. This is a gorgeous 60 year old rifle in a highly desirable caliber retaining most of its original factory condition that has never been messed with...a true investment quality Model 70 that will increase in value as you enjoy its use.
