Winchester 62A S L or LR Gun
Description:
SOLD.This Winchester Model 62A was built in 1947, the 2nd year of post-war production. Of interest to collectors is the slide handle configuration. Throughout the post-war period, Winchester continued to use the 17-groove slide handle on the Model 62. However, on April 29, 1947, a subtle modification, of which Model 62 collectors should be aware of, took place. The diameter of the large slide handle was changed from 1-9/16 inches to 1-7/16 inches. This alteration resulted in a sub-variation of the large slide handle and resulted in a slightly smaller slide handle. The most noticeable consequence was that the new sub-variation did not cover as much of the barrel as the earlier large slide handle variation. The top of the slide handle was also squared on its edges and no longer wrapped around to the barrel centerline as did the large slide handle. The overall shape and length of the slide handle remained the same. Because this slight modification was in 1947, only 18 months before a major alteration took place, only 50,000 Model 62s were produced with this slightly smaller diameter interim slide handle. This 62A is in excellent condition. No sales to CA. Must ship to FFL.
