WINCHESTER Model 1890,2nd model,
.22 SHORT-Takedown Model
Description:
A nice example of the old shooting gallery guns in the desired .22 short caliber. Serial # 31,400 which is a fairly low number indicating early production.. They ran from 1 to 326,000.The barrel and 15 shot magazine tube have about 85% blue remaining , with about 10% on the receiver and only traces on the crescent steel buttplate. There is a tangent flip up rear sight. The octogon barrel is 24" long. The bore is dark (hey, you'd be dark after 107 years too). Needs a good cleaning- and at the age of 80 I'm out of the cleaning business. It still shoots just fine. This rifle was made prior to 1908. There is an exposed hammer. Function is excellent. The stock has some minor dings but no cracks or splits. The forepiece wood is nice with a small chip on the right side. The barrel is marked: Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn. U.S.A.".
A great first rifle for a young person to learn on and to have fun with. Also a good investment as Winchester arms have been increaseing nicely for a number of years.
