Youth size Hawken Rifle
Description: Hawken Rifle made for young person. Approx. .35 cal. OAL is 40.5", draw 12 7/8", bbl. 25 7/8", and is 15/16" across the flats. Dark walnut stock is 27 3/4", and the rifle weighs 7.9 lbs. I can only guess when this rifle was made at 1850-1870. It is made in the Hawken style, with pewter nose cap that shows light, somwehat crude engraving. Lock is 4 7/8" X 1", gray-brown patina with some pitting and engraving throughout that shows a pair of game birds to the left of the hammer. This lock does not have a safety or half cock notch, only full cock. The trigger system is a double set, single phase where the set trigger actually fires the lock by setting the rear (set) trigger and then pulling the front trigger. It has an adjustment screw and is very light. Trigger guard, butt plate, toe plate, and patchbox are brass. Rear tang screw has been replaced. The screw it replaced is inside of the patchbox, in my opinion is old but not correct. Brass tipped ramrod is most likely an old replacement. Barrel is a brown patina, with light dings and some corrosion around replaced nipple area. Front sight is a brass blade that could be an old replacement. Rear sight is open and adjustable; it also has been relocated rearward and there are 2 small plugs on the top barrel flat. The stock has numerous use and storeage dings. Bore condition is unknown but appears shootable. An interesting piece. Price reduced: $650. SOLD Antique: Yes Model: Hawken youth Caliber Info: approx .35 Condition: good Metal Condition: brown patina Wood Condition: numerous dings Bore Condition: unknown Stock Cast: none Sights: open Manufacture Date: 1850-1870 Engraving: lock and hammer |
