Winchester Model 21 Pachmayr Custom
Description:
If you are seeking the ultimate in shotguns, for a collection or for shooting competitively, look no further. Here, according to Jack O'Connor, Shooting Editor for Outdoor Life Magazine, is the best American made shotgun ever constructed. He and his family owned four.
In the early 1940's, Frank Packmayr purchased Model 21s from Winchester and commissioned the best independent engravers, stockmakers, and gunsmiths to beautify these guns. Included on this particular model is a single, adjustable trigger, engraving and inlays by Angelo Bee, an engraved pistol grip cap stating that this gun was donated by Nanita & Frank Pachmayr. It is serial numbered 164XX which places its date of manufacture at about 1947. Its blued receiver is decorated with eleven gold birds, ducks, quail, and pigeons in gold, as well as two gold inlays on the barrels (left side is a duck and right side is a quail). The forend has a minor crack that was fully and meticulously repaired by Master Gunsmith Bob Hunan.
While this shotgun has a trap designation, it has the proper measurements (14.5" LOP) for trap, sporting clays, or field shooting. Its 30" barrels are choked full/full, have double beads, and the barrels each has gold inlays around the front end of barrel. The bluing is perfect as is is the stocks. There is no rust, no pitting, no nicks or depressions in the wood. This is one of the most perfect shotguns I have seen in 50 years of buying and selling guns and competing in shotgun sports.
