Rare WELLS FARGO Marked Charles Daly COACH Shotgun
Description: Rare WELLS FARGO Marked Charles Daly COACH Shotgun W.F.&Co. EXPRESS Company Stamped STAGECOACH Gun! Here we present a rare opportunity to own a Wells Fargo & Co. Marked Charles Daly Coach Shotgun! Coach shotguns as we know them today came about in the mid-19th Century, but their roots go back to flintlock blunderbusses in the 1600s. The shotgun was and remains a devastating close range weapon, ideal for defense. The barrels were typically shortened, making them even handier, more packable, and maneuverable. Coach guns have also been known as “Messenger Guns” and the phrase “riding shotgun” has been carried down from this time. Messenger, transportation, railroad and express companies, among others chose the short double barreled shotgun to defend their stagecoaches, wagons and trains against gangs, bandits and Native Americans as they crisscrossed the United States. This shotgun was made circa the 1890s and has Wells Fargo & Company Express markings. It is marked “W.F.&Co.” on the barrel rib at the breech as well as underneath the frame, and “W.F.&CO.EXP.” on the left side of the butt stock. It features two exposed, rebounding hammers. The frame, lock plates, trigger guard and screws are all nicely engraved, and the barrel is Damascus Twist. This shotgun is in overall good condition. The Damascus barrels have a deep brown patina, as do the rest of the steel parts. All markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is in good condition, showing the kind of wear that lets you know that it has been there and done that, and makes you curious as to where and what that might be. The checkering is worn quite smooth and the original varnish is still present in some places. There is a tiny, shallow split behind the left lock plate that is stable. The bores are in very good condition, shiny and clean with minor pitting. The barrels lock up tight. The firing mechanism is in fine condition. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. No other examples found worldwide! Barrel is 20 inches in length. Caliber: 12 gauge Bore is in very good, clean condition. The firing mechanism is fine. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3500 #10350 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
