Early American Flintlock Buck and Ball Gun Converted to Percussion
Description:
REDUCED PRICE AGAIN !!! TRADES FOR MUZZLE LOADING RIFLES CONSIDERED. Early American flintlock buck and ball Gun converted to percussion in its working life. 45 1/2" barrel, about 60 caliber smooth bore with rifle sites. Classic configuration of an early buck and ball gun.
Overall lines of the gun are very elegant and it shoulders nicely. Stocked in curly maple with moderate figure in the forearm, the stock architecture, engraving and incise carving all suggest an American origination. Late 1700's to early 1800's.
Signed "J Ford" on the top flat in elegant script, not unlike the current Ford Motor Company logo. The "J" might also be interpreted as an "S" or "T" Some little flowers stamped between the initial and the last name are just visible.
Percussion lock may be a replacement from the time of conversion as it is a bit to big for the lock moulding. Lock does click up and hold in both half and full cock. There is some chipping around the lock inlet and the lock stands a little proud. This could probably be made more presentable by a competent restorer. There is a crack in the trigger guard cleary visible in the pictures. Rest of the stock is quite sound with just the usually nicks and dings associated with a 200 year old gun.
Gun is "as found" with original patina and surfaces. Sold as an antique and not warranted to be safe to shoot.
$50 packaging and shipping fully insured via UPS to the lower 48. I have a small business and ship daily. Know how to pack so that the gun will get there.
