A.H. Fox BE Grade 12 Gauge -
LIGHTWEIGHT
Description: A.H. Fox BE Grade 12 Gauge SxS Shotgun LIGHTWEIGHT, 6LBS 11OZ FIELD GUN! General Specs: Fox, Year 1910, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 11oz, Side by Side Serial Number: 16830 Certain guns just make an impression. Finding a vintage American double in 12 gauge that weighs 6 3/4lbs. is a start. Now, add a correct restoration so the gun looks like it just left the factory and you have one heck of a gorgeous bird and clays gun. This fine Fox, sn16830 built in 1910, is configured just as it left the factory right down to the chokes. There just isn’t any doubt in my mind. The early A.H. Fox guns were the best of them all. The internal parts are highly polished by the factory just as they did on their high grade guns. Ansley was still at the helm and everything had to live up to “The Finest Gun in the World” slogan. The wood is original to the gun and is better than most B Grades you will ever see. We have a copy of the original order card and the gun is "as shipped", with the exception of the restoration. The Fox B Grade was the first model to be phased out in 1918, so there are not a lot of them out there, especially with ejectors. With the great stock dimensions, light weight, and quick pointing characteristics this is a gun you will cherish in the field for decades. The fact that it will increase in value as you enjoy its use is a real bonus! The 28" Krupp steel, #3 weight barrels are in excellent condition, with 100% rust blue, clear lettering and engraving, reinforced forend lug for heavier loads, factory choked at .006/.018 (shown as Cylinder/Mod on the order card but measure SK/M in today's venacular), minimum barrel wall thickness 28 thou right, 25 thou left, mirror bores, 2 3/4" chambers, tight ribs, no dents, tight on breech face and hinge pin like a new gun. The action has the fine English scroll with birds on the right and left side known as the "early style" B engraving. It is elegant and clear and the style chosen by Ansley Fox to represent this level of gun. The case color has been restored to 99%, screws are excellent, lever is well right of center, the action was stripped and cleaned internally during the restoration, double triggers are crisp with pulls of 4.25 right trigger, 4.75 left trigger, which is just about perfect for hunting, trigger guared 100% blue, ejectors strong and timed, all in excellent mechanical order with a 30 day shooting warranty. The wood is original to the gun and has nice figure both sides, which is hard to find in a B Grade. B Grade wood usually only had figure on one side, plain on the other, or it would have been used for C Grade guns. Wood is nicely restored French walnut, with expertly recut checkering, no splits or cracks, 14 1/8" LOP to factory butt plate, 2 5/8" drop at heel, 1 5/8" drop at nose of comb, neutral cast for good modern dimensions, and good wood to metal fit. We can bend the stock to your dimensions for an added $200 within 21 days of purchase. The combination of features found in this gun are very difficult to find. If you want a 12ga. gun you can carry all day, one that is lighter than almost all Parker 16ga. guns and Model 21 20ga. guns, that handle like a fine English double and can handle the loads we want to shoot at pheasants and long western birds, this is your gun. Nicely restored guns are selling extremely well in today's marketplace, as modern shooter/collectors want guns that look nice and have the protective finishes intended by the maker. Don't let this one get away!
