A.H. Fox Sterlingworth, 12 Gauge with 30”Barrels, Mfg 1920 in Philadelphia, Reconditioned
Description: This A.H. Fox Sterlingworth 12 gauge shotgun was manufactured in 1920 in Philadelphia. With its 30” fluid steel barrels and heavy weight, its original owner most likely bought it to hunt wildfowl. Because of the ready availability of factory ammunition for classic guns, today it is not only an excellent sporting clays gun but also a fine duck gun. This American classic is properly restored to bring it back to a condition similar to what it would have been after a few years of use by the original owner. The wood is reconditioned and has a hand-rubbed stock oil finish. The barrels are refinished using the slow-rust-blue process. The color case hardening was redone by Classic Guns, Crete, IL. The beautiful beavertail forearm wood replaces the damaged original. The barrels are choked Improved Cylinder (.010) and Improved Modified (.025) and have 2-3/4” chambers. The lettering on the top of the barrels is crisp and the bores are bright. The minimum wall thickness for the right barrel is .032 and the left .034. Bore diameters at 9” from the breech are both .725. The drop at the comb is 1-3/4” and at the heel 2-3/4”. Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the original butt plate is 14-1/4”. The weight is 8 lbs 2 ounces. The gun locks up tight and on face; the top lever returns to the right of center. The stock is cast off for the right-handed shooter. All serial numbers, 89566, match. The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer. The inspection period is 7 days from receipt by buyer. This gun has been fired on multiple occasions on sporting clays ranges using standard factory 2-3/4” target loads and while hunting waterfowl using Hevi-Shot “Classic Doubles for Vintage Guns.” However, as for any vintage shotgun it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her own gunsmith before firing. The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.
