Fox Sterlingworth 16 Gauge – 30” DOUBLE BARREL vintage firearms inc
Description: Fox Sterlingworth 16 Gauge Shotgun 30" BARRELS General Specs: Fox, Year 1926, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, Side-by-Side Serial Number: 360293 Ansley H. Fox got it right when he designed the Fox 16ga. on the 20ga. receiver. Fox 16-gauge guns are invariably light and well balanced, much more so than other American makers of the day. Parker made a few of their 16’s on the “O” frame that was designed for their 20ga. gun, but they are far and few between and you pay a large premium when you find one. Most will agree the Fox Sterlingworth 16ga. is the best value for a small gauge American double gun in today's marketplace. This Fox, sn360293 made in 1926, is quite a rare find, as it has very desirable and low production 30” number 3 weight barrels that still retain 95% factory blue, mirror bores, and factory choking of M/F. Even with the 30” barrels this Fox weighs only 6lbs. 3oz. and balances perfectly between the hands. It also has OUTSTANDING FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION, with factory correct bore diameter and minimum barrel wall thickness of 33 thousandths, 88% strong factory case color, 90% original charcoal blue on the trigger guard, perfect screws, most all the factory original wood finish, and original length of pull to the factory buttplate. The flat top checkering is superb and is factory untouched, and the wood to metal fit is tight as new. The gun has likely never been apart. There are some hunting marks in the wood, but mostly in the finish and no deep marks, cracks, or repairs. Restoring the wood to new is very affordable and can be done in our shop in a very short period of time. Doing so would really make this a “looker”, as the rest of the gun is really strong. Some people like them untouched, so for now that is the way you see it. It is in really nice condition with good shooting dimensions, ready for the upcoming season’s upland game and clay targets. Untouched guns are becoming increasingly difficult to find, making guns like this one a great investment opportunity. What a great find at less than 6 1/4lbs. and 30” barrels! Thanks for looking.
