Kreighoff Model 32, 12 Gauge Skeet Gun, Excellent Condition
Description: For those of you who have looked at my other GI postings, you know my Uncle Dub bought several nice guns in the 1960’s – his original Parker VH 20 and his beautifully restored Fox AE are for sale now – and then, due to a life change, gave up shooting entirely around 1970. According to his typewritten record – he was meticulous, but especially so when it came to his shotguns – he purchased this in August of 1969 from a man named Riley Plunkett, probably in the Dallas area, making this the last gun he purchased. He probably shot a few rounds of skeet with it that year, before moving on to other things. He kept and maintained this and his other guns in his Dallas home until he suffered a stroke in the late 1980’s, which mandated that those guns come to live in my father’s gun safe a few hours away. It sat, idly, in climate-controlled comfort next to my father’s deer rifles for the next 25 or so years. So, it has been properly cared for but never fired or taken afield for close to half a century. This skeet gun has a single selective trigger, auto-ejectors, an ivory front sight and a steel mid-sight, a raised vented rib, and according to my uncle’s record detail, “a semi-fancy walnut stock with approximately 22-line checkering, and a hard rubber butt plate and grip cap.” The gun may not have changed at all since my uncle’s 1969 document. He describes the barrel and stock as “excellent” – you can take a look at the photos and judge for yourself – and the bore as “perfect” – it looks new to me. He does note “very slight blue wear bottom.” You can see it on bottom and edges of the metal directly in front of the trigger guard in the photos if you look close. I dry fired the gun (with snap caps) and can confirm that the safety works – but is stiff – the trigger is crisp, and the ejectors operate as expected. A word on the safety: if you are an experienced skeet shooter you know this already, but in case you’re not, here goes: This is designed as a specialized skeet gun. The safety slides forward to fire just like any other top-tang safety; however, skeet shooters are paranoid that they might miss a shot because the safety accidentally slid on; so, while it pushes forward to fire like any other gun, the button on the safety switch must be depressed slightly to allow the safety to be engaged. Some skeet and trap guns have no safety all, so this is a compromise for hunter/clay shooters. (I am not a skeet expert by any means, so if I got any of that wrong feel free to set me straight.)
