Purdey .20 Gauge side by side, two barrel set, Straight Grip, Beaver Forearm, Single Trigger
Description: Purdey .20 gauge circa 1970, a gun built to order for a family member and in the family's possession since taking delivery from Purdey. All original condition, 28" barrels M/F and 26" barrels IC/IC, silvers pad, self opener, non-auto safety, two gold beads per barrel, bluing shows some wear mostly on barrels under beaver tail forearm and trigger guard. Case colors estimated at 65%. Recently measured; LOP to center 15" DAC 1 5/8" DAH 1 5/8"; LOA 45", weight 5 lbs. 14 oz. Stock has hand rubbed oil finish and shows some minor handling marks. An expert English gunsmith inspected the gun this past week and reccommended against reconditioning the gun. He felt the gun was in too good of condition and would be more desirable unaltered. Nevertheless, if a buyer wanted the gun re-blued and case colors restored to 100%, he estimated a range of $2,500 to $5,000 and a time frame of less than 6 months to complete the work. From Purdey February 2017: On the matter of 27706. As you may already know this was built and sold in April 1971 with a set of 26 and 28 inch barrel. You will see on the underside of the barrel just in front of the hook, the initials GW, for George Wood a very senior Barrel makers at that time. On the forend iron you will see the initials BD although it may look more like PD. This was the Actioner Ben Delay, who was my old gun making master and so there is every chance I may have made parts of your gun. The gun was stocked by Harold Ben’s brother with the beaver tail forend. Engraving was done by my old pal Danny O’Brien. Mr Woolmer did the ejector work and Mr Swanson finished the gun on the 28th Jan 1971. It was stocked at 1 9/16” and 1 7/16” which is close to the usual 2” to 1 ½" . The LOP Length of pull or mid stock length was 15”. SOLD |
