Holland & Holland 28 Gauge - No. 2 BACK ACTION ROYAL FAMILY GUN, AS NEW, 2 3/4" PROOF **REDUCED PRICE**
Description: Holland & Holland 28 Gauge Side by Side Shotgun **REDUCED PRICE** No. 2 BACK ACTION, ROYAL FAMILY GUN, AS NEW, 2 3/4" PROOF General Specs: Holland & Holland, Year 1889, 28 Gauge, 5lbs 8oz, SxS, ANTIQUE Serial Number: 12307 Those who follow my listings realize I get to see many world class, collectible sporting guns. Often something truly outstanding comes our way…something that stands out above all the rest. This Holland is one of those guns! Holland serial no. 12307, built in 1889 as one of a trio of 28b guns shipped to the “Nawab Amir of Bahawalpur”. The Nawab was the ruler, or King, of the country of Bahawalpur and reigned generationally from 1748 to 1954 when the country was merged with Pakistan. Holland & Holland has provided the factory order and shipping records for this gun and it matches to this day. Importantly for the shooter/collector, the gun was reproofed in Birmingham between 1984 and 1989 for modern, 2 ¾” HEAVY 28GA. LOADS. The normal proof is at 3 tons, heavy proof at 3 ¼ tons. This gun is proofed at the latter specification. The gun was ordered as a “No. 2 back action hammerless top lever” with 28” fine Damascus barrels, both barrels full choke. The barrels are in PERFECT CONDITION WITH MIRROR BORES AND WALL THICKNESSES OF 27 THOU RIGHT, 26 THOU LEFT, and about 90% Damascus pattern present. The English style stock of exhibition Turkish walnut has perfect wood to metal fit, perfect stock shaping with a petite oval wrist, perfect checkering with 3 line border, not a crack, chip, or split anywhere, stock dimensions a handy 14 7/8” x 2 3/8” x 1 ½ x ¼” cast off. The receiver wears 100% bone and charcoal case color with near perfect screws, all in perfect working order. It even has an auto safety. The Holland back action is a full round action shotgun with all of the comforts and daintiness of a Dickson…the finest gun in hand you will find. At 5 ½ lbs and balanced dead on the hinge pin you will not find a gun with better handling dynamics. Cased in a vintage canvas/leather case with Holland labels from another gun, some provenance, in as new condition with perfect, modern proofed barrels, stocked with fine shooting dimensions and that Holland & Holland romance…does it get any better. The gun of a wise King, and cared for by a King’s staff, this is the epitome of a vintage clays and upland gun in the most desirable 28ga. It will be a very long time before you see an opportunity for a gun like this so don’t miss out! Thanks for looking.
