Lefever A Grade 20 Gauge, MODEL 5, LOTS OF CONDITI LOTS OF CONDITION
Description: Lefever A Grade 20 Gauge Side by Side Shotgun MODEL 5, LOTS OF CONDITION General Specs: Lefever, Year 1939, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 5oz w/pad; 6lbs 1oz w/ plate, SxS Serial Number: 302487 There is much confusion when a vintage double gun enthusiast sees the name “Lefever” in a gun ad. Many are not aware that Ithaca bought the Lefever Arms Co. in 1916 and produced a few of these fine sideplated guns designed by Dan Lefever until production ceased in 1919 and Ithaca moth balled the Lefever name. In 1922 the Ithaca Gun Co. produced the “Lefever Nitro” using the well known name of Dan Lefever to call attention to their affordable but well made double shotguns. They utilized this marketing to produce a group of Lefevers they labeled the Lefever A Grades, with nicer wood and metal finishing, sculpted frames, better checkering, and some line engraving that were much nicer versions of the Lefever Nitro. They looked nearly identical to their more costly Ithaca NID era guns. The Model 5, or “A Grade” was produced from 1935 to 1940. This gun, sn302487 made in 1939, came with a special order single trigger, 26” barrels choked IC/M, and retains 70% vivid factory case color. Weighing in at a svelte 6lbs. 4oz. and balanced delightfully on the hinge pin, with great modern shooting dimensions (14” LOP from a rear trigger position, 2 5/8” drop at heel, 1 ½” drop at comb), you will find this a very attractive, affordable little 20ga. vintage American double that will serve you well for decades to come. You rarely see vintage double guns with single triggers or a gun with this much condition that you can actually afford and justify carrying afield. A great little investment gun that will increase in value as you enjoy its use, as long as you take good care of it. Thanks for looking!
