Thomas Bland 20GA Lovely Engraving and Wonderful Condition
Description: I have decided to sell a rather unusual little 20 gauge side-by-side. This gun is marked Thomas Bland & Sons, 4 + 5 William IV Street, Strand London W.C.2 on the rib of the gun. That is the only maker marking found on the gun. The gun is virtually 100% engraved and very well done as the pictures show. I'm guessing the engraving was done after market and thus the maker's name was removed from the action but that is only a guess. Everything about this gun is done extremely well. Barrels are very well struck and ring like a chime. Wood to metal fit and finish are excellent and all appear to be totally original. Checkered horn butt plate and grip cap are as lovely as you will every find and give the gun a custom look. In short I can find nothing that detracts from the gun and this is why I've owned the gun for a number of years. The other thing unusual about this gun is the proof. This gun is chambered for and proofed for 3 inch 1 ounce loads. Why that is I have no idea but it does measure for 3" chambers and barrel wall thickness is certainly thick enough to support 1 ounce loads with both barrels measuring over .031 in thickness. Chokes have obviously been opened up to cylinder and cylinder. Barrels have not been cut and measure 28 inches. Weight of the gun is an even 6 pounds so it isn't a light little wand that is difficult to shoot accurately. I have shot the gun at skeet but never hunted with it because the condition is no nice I hated to take it into the grouse woods, but it certainly is set up for Grouse, Woodcock, or Quail. Stock dimensions are 1 1/2 X 2 X 14 5/8 over the previously mentioned bone, checkered butt plate which I think is as pretty as any plate I've ever seen. Cast is pretty much neutral. Checkering is in wonderful condition. Trigger pulls are excellent as is the safety. Gun has extractors. All in all you can see why I feel this is an unusual little gun but is so nice you just want to stare at it. I've contacted Griffin & Howe that has the Records on Thomas Bland and they cannot find records for it so I cannot say how this gun came to be, but I can tell you the work is first class in every regard. Price of the gun is $4800 plus $50 shipping to your FFL and as always there is a three day non-firing inspection period with the buyer paying shipping charges if returned.
