Winchester Model 42 - CUSTOM UGRADE, .410 GAUGE INCREDIBLE ENGRAVING & WOOD
Description: Winchester Model 42 .410 Gauge Pump Shotgun CUSTOM UPGRADE, INCREDIBLE ENGRAVING & WOOD General Specs: Winchester, Year 1948, .410 Gauge, 6lbs 7oz, Pump Shotgun Serial Number: 66279 The Model 42 is an icon in the ranks of Winchester firearms, made in the days of the highest quality control and hand fitted parts. The Model 42 was a flawlessly produced little pump gun, chambered only for the diminutive .410 shotgun shell. In the 30 years of production that ran from 1933 to 1963, almost 160,000 of these fine guns were produced. A very large percentage were Field Grade guns, and there were also Skeet Grades, Trap Grades, and the Deluxe Grade. IN ALL THERE WERE LESS THAN 400 DELUXE GRADES EVER MADE BY THE FACTORY. In Ned Schwing's book "THE WINCHESTER MODEL 42" he describes the Deluxe Grade as a continuation of the Trap Grade that was in production from 1934 to 1939 with only 231 guns produced. In 1946 the Deluxe Grade took the place of the Trap Grade. This gorgeous little M42, sn66279 built somewhere in the late 1940’s or very early 1950’s, is a custom upgraded gun with fantastic French walnut stocks checkered to perfection with 26 LPI borderless checkering. The SKEET style forend is 11 ¾” long, noticeably longer than usual. The engraving was done by Denise Thirion, well known engraver featured in the book “American Engravers The 21rst Century”. Thirion was a factory engraver for decades at the FN plant in Belgium, working on all levels of Browning Superposed guns. She worked for 4 years in the Colt Manufacturing Co. Custom Shop and became well known for her work on Colt firearms. From there she contracted work for Angelo Bee and engraved many different makes and styles of firearms. Just look closely at the photos and you will see a superior level of workmanship in the scroll, background shading, and especially in the dogs and game scenes. This is FAR SUPERIOR TO ANY WORK EVER PUT OUT BY WINCHESTER. The gun itself is in excellent mechanical condition and shows as new with no marks in the metal or dings in the wood. What a fun gun to shoot clays or upland game with! This gun is priced to sell and is a grand way to invest some money in a tangible asset that will always be a desirable gun in the marketplace.
