Winchester Model 1897 Riot Gun Caliber 12 GA Shotgun
Description:
This is a test fired only Winchester Model 97 Riot Gun manufactured in 1926. The gun is in near perfect condition as it was not many years ago it was removed from it's original crate and the cosmoline was removed. There appears to be no handling marks to the forend but only a very small pressure line at the toe of the stock. The blue is at a full 98%+ and shows only two corrosion spots, one on the barrel ring just to the right of the serial number and one on the barrel ring just above the serial number. The bore still has its original cosmoline coating. Historical note: This is a former Silver Valley, Idaho mining company security gun that was never issued. For those who are unfamiliar with North Idaho history in the 1890 - 1900 period there were a lot of upheavals by workers in the Silver Valley mining district. So much that the U.S. government dispatched a 1,000 soldiers to quell the uprisings. There were bombings, executions and large numbers of individuals incarcerated in fenced camps, etc. This gun was owned by one of the major mining companys in the period that followed these upheavals and kept in reserve and stored in their original shipping creates until that company was dissolved into a larger company. And the firearms were cleaned. Accompanying this gun is a letter by a former Silver Valley employee that attests to the history of the gun. The gun still has original factory hang tags, which accompany the gun. This is a rare chance to own a piece of real Americana that was present during some historical events in the settlement of the Northwest.
