Fox CE 12 Gauge SxS Shotgun
Description: Fox CE 12 Gauge SxS Shotgun ULTRALIGHT AT 6LBS. 7OZ., #4 WEIGHT BARRELS General Specs: A.H. Fox, Year 1920, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 9oz, Side by Side Serial Number: 26453 The A.H. Fox C Grade guns are considered by many to be the most attractively finished Fox guns made. There are higher grades but the C Grade engraving is very tastefully executed. This Philly Fox, sn26453 built in 1920 has beautiful wood, all factory original parts, well executed engraving, and perfectly balanced on the hinge pin. This is not the typical CE that has been used hard, but something special. At some point within 9 years of its creation the second set of 26" #4 weight barrels was added to the gun, which shipped originally with 30" barrels and weighed 7lbs. 6oz. The set now with the gun are properly marked on the barrel flats and forend iron with the numeral 2. In addition, the bore diameter is factory and the LM choke measures a full 4" of choke taper. For those of you who may wonder if the original 30" barrels were cut to 26", I guarantee they have not. First, you do not loose 14 ounces of weight by cutting 4" off the barrels. Second, there would be no chokes left if you cut 4" off, especially not 16 thou choke restriction that measures 4" in length. It is impossible that these were the original 30" barrels. In the world of American double guns, anything under 7lbs. is "light weight", and to find a double 12ga. under 6 3/4lbs. is rare indeed. This is the lightest Fox 12 gauge gun I have ever encountered at just under 6 1/2lbs.! If you carry a gun after upland birds WEIGHT MATTERS. I truly appreciate light 12 bore guns by the end of a long day, and it certainly makes for a quick mount and handling in tight spots. In the day this gun was created it was referred to as a "Brush Gun", meant for tight quarters and quick handling. Watch out grouse! Fox shotguns are highly sought after and have appreciated in value significantly in the past several years. This is a wonderful, honest Fox for your 12ga. hunting and clay target needs and will be a wise investment that will earn you money while you enjoy its use.
