U.S. Model 1888 Trapdoor Ramrod Bayonet Rifle 1884 date
Description:
Serial #516523, .45-70, 32 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore.
This ramrod bayonet-equipped rifle has retained 85-90% of the original blue on the barrel, receiver, and lock with mild flaking present throughout revealing smooth plum-brown underlying metal.
The 1884 dated breech block has dark freckling with vivid original color case-hardening still visible throughout.
The walnut stock has been refinished to excellent condition with a few scattered handling marks in the excellent ruddy tinted varnish and a still clear and legible "SWP/1891" cartouche on the left side of the wrist.
The stock compartment is empty and the buttplate has a mottled gray-brown patina with a few very minor pinprick pits here and there.
This is a great Trapdoor that has excellent original metal and handsomely refinished wood.
