U.S. Model 1898 Krag Rifle by Springfield Armory
Description: Serial #374142, .30-40 U.S., 30" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome rifle that has retained 97% plus of the original blue finish that has faded slightly at the muzzle, along the rounded portion of the left side of the receiver, edges of the magazine door, and along some of the high edges and bearing surfaces. The bolt is armory bright with only some minor freckling on the handle and body, but the extractor still has almost all of the original fire blue remaining. The walnut stock and handguard are in fine original condition and have only minor handling marks and small blemishes marring the original oil finish as well as a still crisp "JSA/1900" cartouche on the left side of the wrist. The steel buttplate has some traces of the original blue remaining with the balance turned to a lightly freckled gray patina with some scattered pinprick pitting at the heel. This is a fine example of a U.S. Krag-Jorgensen and would make a great addition to any collection.
