Antique REMINGTON New Model NAVY Crtg Conversion
Description:
Antique REMINGTON New Model NAVY Crtg Conversion
Rare Conversion with Ejector Rod & Loading Gate
Here we present an antique Remington New Model Navy Cartridge Conversion, made circa 1875 in Ilion, New York. These revolvers were initially made in the percussion format during the American Civil War. Eventually, when Smith & Wesson’s Rollin White Patent expired, these revolvers would either be converted or even built from the ground up as cartridge guns. The US Navy even experimented with a small contract of these revolvers in this configuration, with a loading gate and ejector rod built in. There are other types of conversion variants known.
The overall condition is near fine. The original blue finish is about 15% with some on the loading lever, barrel, frame and cylinder. The case colors are still vibrant on the hammer. The markings are clear and legible. The grips show period wear but are solid and in good shape. The bore is well-rifled and in very good shape. The action is excellent. Here is a very nice example of a scarce cartridge revolver that would have been found in the Old West next to Colt SAAs!
