The AP5 is one of Century Arms newest iterations of the legendary MP5 submachine gun. Shown here is the mid-size model, the AP5-P. While not as small as the AP5-M, the AP5-P is still much shorter in overall length than the standard AP5. There are multiple versions of the AP5-P imported by Century Arms. As mentioned in the title, this is SKU HG6035AS-N. This is a special Distributor Exclusive from Sports South and features a duo-tone finish of tungsten grey and matte black. It comes with a hard case, one 30-round magazine, and a manual. It does not come with a picatinny rail claw mount, second magazine, or pistol brace. This allows the price to be significantly less than the standard AP5-P model, or SKU HG6035-N. It would be interesting to know if the “A” in the SKU stands for “Austere”. The “S” in the SKU likely indicates the special status of being exclusive to Sports South. The AP5 is based on the famous MP5 sub-machine gun. Although work on the design began in 1964, it was not until 2 years later that H&K’s new submachine gun would be adopted by the German Federal Police, border guards, and special forces units. Interestingly, when work began on the design, it was internally referred to as the HK54. When finally adopted, it was issued to German forces as the MP64 – at least initially. Eventually, the SMG was renamed to the now familiar MP5 designation. Due to its excellent design, the MP5 was quickly adopted world-wide by 40 nations and numerous military and law enforcement organizations. The MP5 achieved iconic status in 1980 when used by Britain’s famed Special Air Service (SAS) during Operation Nimrod to storm the Iranian Embassy in London, rescuing hostages and killing five terrorists. The “S” in the SKU likely indicates the special status of being exclusive to Sports South. The AP5 is based on the famous MP5 sub-machine gun. Although work on the design began in 1964, it was not until 2 years later that H&K’s new submachine gun would be adopted by the German Federal Police, border guards, and special forces units. Interestingly, when work began on the design, it was internally referred to as the HK54. When finally adopted, it was issued to German forces as the MP64 – at least initially. Eventually, the SMG was renamed to the now familiar MP5 designation. Due to its excellent design, the MP5 was quickly adopted world-wide by 40 nations and numerous military and law enforcement organizations. The MP5 achieved iconic status in 1980 when used by Britain’s famed Special Air Service (SAS) during Operation Nimrod to storm the Iranian Embassy in London, rescuing hostages and killing five terrorists. This operation was actually carried out on live television. While this version does not come with a picatinny kit in the box, the AP5-P will accept almost any aftermarket parts intended for use on an H&K MP5 and the receiver does retain the mounting points for a claw mount. With a picatinny kit installed, almost any optic can be mounted on the AP5-P. A red dot sight is recommended. Fully kitted out, the AP5-P would make an excellent home-defense gun. This pistol is brand new in the box.
