Alaskan Commercial Co 1868
Description: For sale is a 150+ year-old percussion fouling piece. This shotgun is believed to have been produced by the Russian American Co of Alaska. According to my research, the Russian American Company was based on the explorations of Vitus Bearing, Russia claimed northwestern Alaska. In 1799 Russia's Tsar granted a charter for the Russian American Company to gather furs in Alaska. Using Native Americans as hunters, Russia America then began operating in northern Alaska and down the west coast to Fort Ross, California. In 1867, when furs became scares, Russia sold its holdings to the United States. Mechanically fine. Mother of pearl on knob. Hand Engraved. Even the wood is engraved. In some places, sterling silver has been set into the wood. The hammers are carved into the shape of a dragon, showing ears and scales. It is truly phenomenal. There is a Russian/Alaskan Eskimo carved into the stock. There are some proof marks on the left and right side just forward of the nipples along the barrel. I don't know a lot about this shotgun, so I am starting at $1,800 delivered and open to offers. I will get the barrel length and bore diameter soon. SOLD Antique: Yes Shotgun Gauge: 16 Gauge |
