This full round corner two piece half split patent box has several interesting features. The powder description lists "21 1/2 grs powder", half grains are relatively uncommon. The central fire callout is from the 1890's yet this cartridge was introduced in 1902. A Smith & Wesson endorsement is on one side, and bottom calls out S&W, Colt's Winchester, marlin, Remington, Savage, and Stevens when only S&W and colt made guns for this round. Box shows shelf wear and light soiling, ammo shows corrosion on some rounds. These have domed copper primers and interesting "U.M.C. .38 S&W SP'L" headstamp with period after "C" and "L" looking like a colin (:) An interesting early box of UMC built between 1902 and 1910.
