John Hart - The Loen Ranger Hawkeye Marked Bowie Knife
Description: "This big bowie knife with a stag handle marked "Hawkeye" and scabbard was my personal property. I have owned since 1956 when it was given to me by Lon Chaney Jr. We were filming Hawkeye and The Last of the Mohicans just outside of Toronto, Canada. I played the part of Nat Hawkeye Cutler, and Lon Chaney Jr. played the part of Chingachgook. We became very good friends while working together. He provided me this knife as a token of friendship one morning at my apartment when we were going over lines for the days filming." The knife has about an 11" clip point blade made from an old War of 1812 Nathan Starr manufactured sword and is marked US P LS along with the remnants of Starr's makers mark. The handle is stag with "Hawkeye" carved into the grip. The cross guard, ferrile ring and pommel ring are silver and the pommel cap is an old silver US half dollar. The leather scabbard is also fitted with silver hardware. "I believe the knife is Civil War era. It feels great in your hand and I have really enjoyed this old bowie. I hope it adds nicely to your collection and brings you many years of enjoyment!" - John Hart Signed and notarized. Also included is a black and white photograph of Hawkeye. PERIOD: Mid 20th Century ORIGIN: United States SIZE: Blade 11" Overall 17 SOLD |
