CIVIL WAR Antique TIFFANY Model 1860 CAVALRY Saber

With P.D. Luneschloss Imported Blade from Solingen

Here we present an antique Tiffany U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, made circa 1862 in Solingen, Prussia (what is today Germany) and imported during the American Civil War by Tiffany & Co. These were offered for private sale and carried into battle, especially by those who fought on horseback.

The overall length is 41 inches, with a 35 inch blade. The ricasso is marked “TIFFANY & Co./NEW YORK” on the right and “PDL” inside a serrated oval on the left. This latter marking was the maker’s mark for P.D. Luneschloss of Solingen, a very well-known maker. The hilt is made of brass.

The overall condition is very good. The blade is straight with good markings and a bright finish under a light patina. The brass has a dark patina. The original leather wrap shows some age and wear but is intact. The braided wire wrap is complete. It is twisted together near the top of the guard. Overall a very desirable Civil War Cavalry Saber imported by Tiffany & Co.!
