British Pattern 1822 Royal Artillery Sword
Description: This 40 inch long sword features a 34 inch etched single fuller blade one inch wide marked "Groves 53 Wellington Street Woolwich" on ricasso. Opposite side shows brass proof circle inlaid into double triangle star. The etching shows a Tudor crown over British Coat of Arms over Royal Cypher of George V thus dating this sword to the 1910 to 1936 time period. Opposite side etched with martial scenes and "Royal Artillery". Sword has a three bar hilt of white metal with a full checkered back piece extending to pommel. The grip is fish skin held by two silver wires. This sword comes in a leather bound wood scabbard with white metal throat. The sword remains in very good condition with areas of cleaned oxidation near tip leaving very light pitting on both sides. Etchings are clear with minor wear in ricasso area. Blade has 5 or 6 impact marks in edge, guard shows some dings. Grip is tight with slight discoloration to fish skin. Scabbard is missing ring loop, shows wear and has tight seams. A very good example of this pattern 1821 artillery sword. SOLD Manufacturer: British Model: 1822 |
