Indian Talwar. This form of saber is of a class of sword used in virtually all of India. The hilt is of dark iron with overlaid silver. The blade is watered Damascus, also known as Wootz steel. The blade is 32” long by measuring in a straight line from point to hilt where the blade terminates under the hilt and becomes the tang. The overall length is 36”. Blade has no pits, rust, or nicks. The sheath is a rich green velvet that is surely replaced over many years, as are the sheaths of most if not all Indian swords. A very fine talwar.
