This scarce sword (circa 1829-31) is engraved "N.P. Ames Cutler Springfield" on ricasso. Blade is etched with oak leaves, acorns and flags around an oval panel reading "Roxbury Artillery" on reverse. Obverse is plain. Blade is 27 inches with single unstopped fuller and flat back. Ball pommel and octagon crossguards are brass. The grip is vertically ribbed bone with a crack in one groove. The scabbard is leather mounted with brass fittings and has been wired together and reinforced with a brass plate tabed to backside. A very scarce sword with local Mass. State connections and a restorable scabbard.
