British Royal Navy Officer's Sword
Description: This is an attractive sword that measures 37" overall with a 31 3/8" slightly curved, single-edged blade having wide single fullers and 3/4 etched panels on both sides. The steel still has and overall pewter gray patina with scattered specks of dark freckling. The obverse panel has an oak and knotted rope motif with the British royal arms on the center and repeated in small form just above the ricasso. The reverse has the same oak and rope motif with a crown and fouled anchor in the center, and Damascus star on the ricasso. The hilt has a mottled yellow-ochre patina with spots of dark tarnish throughout, particularly along the inner surface of the folding clamshell guard and knucklebow. The grip terminates in a lion head pommel with exposed capstan nut. The dark brown, reptile skin grip is in fine shape and has an intact braided wire wrap. The brass and leather scabbard has some scattered small scuffs and blemishes, but is otherwise in fine shape. This is a very nice WW2 sword, in very good-fine overall condition.
