WW2 BRINGBACK JAPANESE KATANA (SAMURAI SWORD) WITH SEKI PASSED STICKER WITH PHOTOS AND DOCS. 36.5" overall with 26 1/4" old blade. Very sharp(original edge) with no chinks or anomolies. Even temper line (hamon). Four character tang signature on one side. Believe blade from mid 19th century. One hole with bamboo peg. Gunto WW2 type mounts with three chrysanthamum menuki(gilded) on each side over sharkskin. Original washers and tsuba in the WW2 fashion. Solid with no rattle. Leather snap keeper but no leather sleeve to japanned scabbard(wood). Scabbard with one single iron band and crude iron ring typical of war time construction. Brought back by a U.S. Army Warrant Officer who served from 1943-1947 in the 9710th TSU Chemical Warfare unit. At the end of the war this unit was sent to Hiroshima and Nagasaki to monitor the effects of the Atom Bomb and copies of pictures he took while there are included as well as one of he and members of his unit in Japan at the time. Also included are copies of his Discharge Compensation document stating his unit and dates of service, his record of Veteran’s Cemetery interment at Quantico National Cemetery. Also included is a copy of a photo his Recruit Training Company 58A at Camp Fannin, Texas ca. 1943.
