WW2 US Navy KA-BAR Diving Knife Leather Handle
Description: This is a very rare WWII era US Navy diving knife made by KA-BAR. This knife has a stacked leather grip. This appears to be very uncommon and is not referenced and may have been a special order or theatre made alteration as they were issued with turned wood handles. The knife measures 13 inches overall and has the standard 6 7/8 inch blade. This blade has the saw teeth on one side and straight blade on the other with the metal still factory bright with some carbon staining and minor surface abrasion visible. The ricasso is marked “KA-BAR REG U.S. PAT.OFF." and “Union Cutlery CO. Olean N.Y." on the reverse. The threaded bronze guard is in good condition showing dried grease between the threads and small impact marks on the outer surface. There is slight lateral movement of the guard caused from the shrinking of the leather handle which appears in good condition with some minor handling marks. The bronze pommel cap has some surface dings and shows rough edges from surface impacts. The bronze scabbard is in good condition with scattered scratches and surface dings and impact marks on the upper lip with an overall aged, uncleaned bronze patina. The interior surface is very good with only trace amounts of Verdigris. The knife screws easily into the scabbard. A great piece that would make an excellent and rare addition to your WWII Naval collection. Please see the photographs for further information on condition. SOLD Manufacturer: Ka-Bar Model: Knife |
