JeanTanazacq " RIX" "Couteau de Venerie" "Couteaux de Vautrait" "Hunting Dagger" aka
"Pig Sticker
Description:
Jean Tanazacq's "RIX" model is a double edged dagger, very sharp, with a striated ricasso that encourages a very characteristic grip. This praised blade by big game hunters in Europe, is one of Tanazacq's jewels. The idea comes from the "Main Gauches," "Left Hands," of the 16th Century swordsmen and the V-42 dagger, which was manufactured by Case of which 3,600 copies were produced to equip the first American-Canadian Special Forces in 1943. Why "Vautrait" knife? Because the appellation seems to be the most explicit. What does "Vautrait" means in the French language? It is simply a pack of dog running on the wild boar or boar-hounds in order to hunt it for hunting or shooting,( see pictures # 1 thru # 6). Such knife is usually worn by a Master Huntsman in France..The "RIX" knife which is presented in great detail is all in its own style adapted to its own purpose. As you all know we called them "Pig Stickers" in the US. It is an extremely beautiful and an appealing model in an unique final form, aesthetic, design and overall appearance. As one might surmise this dagger is optimized for the final thrust. It has an 8-5/8" blade of 440-C steel stock, with a solid brass guard, Mozambique ebony handle and a solid brass butt cap. Wild boar hunting is very popular in France and observed in the most traditional fashion of the 15th-16th Century as vouched by the shown pictures. As you have already read this dagger is intended to complete the final thrust done by a Master's Hunstman in France ( see pictures # 6, # 7, # 8 and # 9). This dagger always had a tremendous success among hunters and must be accompanied by a another sharp wide-bladed knife for after hunting. It is Tanazacq's jeweled model. The pressure for the retaining tab/strap needs to be greased and for this effect best is to uses leather cream paste as it is an absolutely brand new knife and scabbard of the highest workmanship and craftsmanship. To my knowledge I've never seen a US maker makes such constructed knife as it is a uniquely designed piece by this amazing maker whose a serie of unique knives will be offered. Price are in Euros without shipping fromFrance.
Note: Make sure to read the text pertaining to that knife (see pictures # 13, # 14 and the accompagning pictures ,(see # 14, # 15). See picture # 12 (which shows blade assembly which comprises a way for tightening the handle thru a cleaver (patened) clamping system unseen before by any other makers worldwide. April 2019 production. Free shipping USPS with tracking # US only!
