Antique FRENCH Model 1822 CAVALRY SABER Dated 1881
Description: Antique FRENCH Model 1822 CAVALRY SABER Dated 1881 Made at Chatellerault & Military Inspected Here we present an antique French Model 1822 Cavalry Sword, manufactured circa 1881 at the Chatellerault Armory. The Model 1822 was a very good blade that had a service life that spanned into World War I with only small modifications. While other models were introduced, none of them had the staying power of the M1822 and it outlasted them all. It served as the basis for the Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber, often called the “Old Wristbreaker”, adopted by the United States and used from the Mexican-American War through the American Civil War. It was stout, provided good hand protection, as well as the ability to both cut and thrust well. The scabbard is marked “R/00”. The hilt is marked “1 6 R R 31”. The base of the blade is marked “5”. The back flat of the blade is marked “M D’Aermes de Chatt Gbre 1881 Cavrie Lre Mle 1822”. This indicates that it is the Model 1822, made in 1881 at Chatellerault. The scabbard has the appropriate single attachment ring, a change adopted around the time this saber was manufactured. The overall condition is very good. The blade shows moderate use and remains bright. The blade is 36 inches long. The hilt is in fine condition with an even, dark patina. The leather and braided wire wrap is complete and tight even after 137 years. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $850 #6627.2 SOLD |
