WW2 German Heer M35 Double Decal Helmet w/ Liner Band
SOLD
Description: Fresh out of a late veteran's attic, an original German Heer (Army) Double Decal M35 helmet. This helmet is the shell and original liner bands only, the leather has rotted out of it. This is an M35 ET66 helmet (Maker: ET, Size: 66) with a heat lot number of 3126. It was originally an "apple green" double decal German Army helmet when it was issued new. At some point during WW2, the German soldier that wore it gave it a field-applied brushed-on coat of field green paint and new decals before he was killed or captured/surrendered. Our best guess is that the decals were scratched-off when it was brought back to the States in the late 1940's, as all Nazi symbolism was frowned-upon. This was particularly true when the soldier's kids or young relatives wanted to wear these to play war with other kids in the neighborhood. As you can see from the pictures, only traces of the original German tricolor shield and Heer eagle decals remain. As it sits this German helmet would make an excellent display piece in a gun room or on a bookshelf as it has a great look to it. The field applied paint is a great color and has a nice patina, and the helmet is free from any dents or major damage leaving the signature shape to be appreciated. This helmet came from the same home as the Nazi Field Police Tunic and Gorget we listed earlier today. It has never been owned by a "collector" previously and has spent the last 60 to 70 years in an attic! SOLD |
