U.S. Model 1833 Dragoon Saber by Ames
Description: This is a handsome sword that measures 39 1/2" overall with a 34 1/4" curved, single-edged, quill-backed blade. The blade has a mottled gray blade with areas of freckling along both sides, but the delicate blade etching is still plainly visible. There are a few small nicks along the edge, but it has never been sharpened, nor was the blade itself polished after manufacture. The hilt has an overall dark ochre patina with some brightening along the edges. The triple branch counterguard and single, forward-swept quillon are in fine shape with a crisp “WS" inspector mark on the quillon itself. The brown leather grip is in good shape, although flaked in areas, and the braided wire wrap is still tight and intact. The metal scabbard has no major dents, and has an overall dark brown patina with some mild pinprick pitting on the drag. The original hanger rings are no longer present and modern split rings have been added. This is a fine example of a scarce and desirable early U.S. military sword, and would make a great addition to any collection. SOLD Manufacturer: Ames Model: Sword |
