This is a two-piece gauge consisting of a 7 1/2" long telescopic section with eye-piece, adjustable along both x and y axis. The markings on the tube read: “INST. TESTING STRAIGHTNESS OF BORE NO. 5 MK. I / TELESCOPE / FOCAL LENGTH 6 INS. / M.S.C. 1943 REG. NO. 58C". The optics are good and have a very fine crosshair reticle. The second piece is a collimator section with removeable frosted glass lens cover, and has the following markings on the tube: “INST. TESTING STRAIGHTNESS OF BORE NO. 5 MK. I / COLLIMATOR / FOCAL LENGTHS 6 INS. / DISTANCE BETWEEN BEARING CENTRES 6 INS. / M.S.C. 1943 REG. NO. 58C". The optics are still quite clear and a second crosshair reticle is present. The components are housed in an original wooden case with felt-lined keepers, and brass screws. Calibration instructions are taped to the lid, and the original leather handle is intact. Old stenciled markings are visible, but no longer legible on one side. This is a neat WW2 optical instrument, and is in excellent condition overall.
