Serial No. 56, circa 1856-1859, .36 caliber, 7 1/8"" octagonal barrel. This is example is a Second variation of the first model with total production being approximately 250. Metal is a a bright grey patina with scattered areas of smooth surface oxidation. Bore shows strong rifling with oxidation in the grooves. Brass is a nice antiqued patina, Action indexes and functions correctly. Top of the barrel is marked ""E. SAVAGE. MIDDLETOWN. CT/H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17TH, 1856"". Under loading lever is the number ""56"".
