Antique Marlin 1898 12 Ga Pump 30" Full Ck Barrel Good Bore C&R
Description:
The Marlin Model 1898 is a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun featuring a 30-inch full choke barrel fitted with a front bead sight. The metal surfaces show a blued finish that has developed a brown patina consistent with age. The shotgun is configured with a smooth walnut stock in a Prince of Wales pistol grip style and a grooved forearm. The serial number is 23319, identifying it as an early production example of Marlin’s late 19th-century repeating shotgun design.
Operation is based on a slide-action mechanism with internal hammer and tubular magazine typical of the 1898 model series. The bore condition is described as good, and the action functions properly. This shotgun is used and shows finish wear characteristic of an antique firearm. The overall length measures approximately 49 inches, and the length of pull from trigger to butt plate is about 13½ inches. A Herter’s black checkered butt plate is fitted to the stock, which provides a period-correct appearance and completes the wood assembly.
No accessories or packaging are included beyond the complete shotgun itself. The configuration remains standard for the model, with the full choke barrel and bead sight as described. This piece qualifies for Curio & Relic designation due to its age and design period, representing Marlin’s early pump-action development in 12-gauge format.
