SUPER RARE GETTYSBURG BATTLEFIELD PICK-UP OF A BROGDAN SHOE
Description: Super rare Gettysburg Battlefield pickup of a Brogdan shoe. Basically fully intact. Stiff from age, brown shoe, 9" foot length. Bottom sole and heel with wear, nails exposed. Remarkably good condition overall for its age. Many of these boots and shoes were piled up on the battlefield, especially if medical care was necessary. "GETTYSBURG" in white paint inscribed across the toe of the shoe. Usually meant for display in a G.A.R. hall, which was the case here. Accompanied by a letter of certification from Gunsight Antiques stating that the said relic is indeed a Gettysburg Battlefield Relic previously on loan to the Bosworth G.A.R. Post #2 in Portland, Maine by Post member Captain George W. Verrill of the 17th Maine Volunteer Infantry. Acquired by a local historian / collector when the hall was destroyed during the urban renewal period. It then became part of the personal grouping of Gettysburg wounded Captain Verrill, Maine Legacy paperwork accompanies as well. Wow! A truly remarkable piece of Gettysburg battlefield history.
