Packet of Combustible Cartridges for the Colt 1860 .44 Revolver by Elam O. Potter of New York, NY, Unopened
Description: One unopened package of six cartridges made by Potter, using Hazard's powder and made using the Johnston & Dow patented collodion-covered material. The label reads “JOHNSTON & DOW’S / WATERPROOF & COMBUSTIBLE / CARTRIDGES, / Manufactured By / Elam O. Potter, New York, U.S. / For Colt’s Army Pistol, Cal. .46.100 / With Powder made expressly for these Cartridges by the / HAZARD POWDER CO.” The Ordnance Manual for the use of the Officers of the United States Army apparently specifies a .46 caliber, 216 gr conical ball for Colt M1860 revolvers of .44 caliber. The 546 page manual is viewable online but you'll have to search to find what it says about the revolver ammunition. The pack is in excellent condition. The label shows minor wear and just a tiny loss at the lower right corner. The paper is intact, with one bullet protrusion just starting at the top. The string remains in place. On the rear top left corner written in pencil is "V2". The pack measures 2.8" x 1.5" x 0.5" and weighs 3.6 ounces. Please contact us with any questions. Free shipping to the contiguous 48 states.
