7.62x54r armor piercing incendiary shKAS 1940 by Russian factory 17, Barnaul Cartridge Plant, Altai Krai, Russia
Description: 12 round partial box of WWII Russian 7.62x54R armor piercing incendiary ammo. The Cyrillic “sideways E” marks this API ammo as made for the ShKAS rapid-fire aircraft machine gun. This box was captured and repacked by Finland during WW II as Finnish lettering shows. The ammo was made in 1940 by Russian factory 17, the Barnaul Cartridge Plant, Barnaul, Altai Krai, Russia. This box with 2 others came from a VC sniper in Vietnam. This is a true story. It doesn’t add value to the ammo, but this box came from my friend Lt. Mike Schramsky (11th ARMORED CAVALRY Regiment “BLACKHORSE". He was riding on a M113 APC trying with a comic-book (his words) on a Hwy 1 supply run. Suddenly a RPG rocket flew over his head. Seeing movement in a roadside tree troops opened fire. A figure and rifle toppled to the ground. Mike ran over to see an old man in black with a Russian Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle. They gathered documents and three 15 round boxes of API cartridges. Another officer grabbed the rifle; Mike got the ammo and sent it home. I met Mike while he managed a Nissan dealership in Santa Fe, NM and we became friends. He brought this box to his office and gave them to me. An afterthought, Mike said they were safe in their APCs from rifle fire, but we tested other countries Armor Piercing rounds, and this was the ONLY AP that fully penetrated M113 armor plate. German AP, 7.62x51, 30/06 and regular 7,62x54r dented the plate, but this high-velocity API put a hole with black explosive residue on both sides. Mike turned pale. ShKAS ammunition is said to produce higher pressures than normal, and shooting this in a rifle is thought to be unwise, or dangerous. So THIS LOT IS OFFERED FOR COLLECTING. I have fired this ammo in several sniper rifles with no problems, but I DON’T SPEAK FOR OTHERS. SOLD Rifle Caliber: 7.62x54mmR |
