This authentic Cold War-era Brazilian military ammunition crate remains loaded with its original complement of 1,920 rounds of 7.62×51mm NATO M1 Ball ammunition, factory packed in linked belts for machine gun use. Marked "Car 7 M1 Ft Lam" (Cartucho 7,62mm M1 Fita Laminada), this is the standard Brazilian Army designation for linked M1 ball cartridges intended for belt-fed weapons such as the FN MAG and other 7.62 NATO machine guns used by the Exército Brasileiro during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The crate documents the complete manufacturing history of its contents. The cartridges were produced by the historic Fábrica de Realengo, as indicated by the FR-69-70 marking, while the propellant originated from the Fábrica de Pólvora de Piquete (FPV). Final inspection, assembly, and military acceptance took place at the Brazilian arsenal in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais (J. FORA – M.G.), a facility that later became one of IMBEL's principal production centers. Original green military acceptance stamps remain clearly visible across the exterior.
The crate retains numerous original logistics markings including the Portuguese warning "EVITAR CHOQUE E CALOR" ("Avoid Shock and Heat"), the original dimensional specifications of 562 × 314 × 223 mm, and the marked shipping weight of 36 kilograms. The original blue identification stripe remains present and is consistent with Brazilian military packaging used for standard linked ball ammunition.
Constructed from heavy hardwood with precision finger-jointed corners, a nailed removable lid, and thick rope carry handles, this crate was engineered to withstand the rigors of military transportation and long-term arsenal storage. Loaded examples of Brazilian Cold War ammunition crates are encountered far less frequently than comparable U.S. or European NATO crates, making this a highly desirable military collectible combining both the original ammunition and its matching factory container.
The crate remains in original military surplus condition with expected handling marks, storage wear, scratches, and age-related patina from decades of arsenal storage. The factory stenciling remains highly legible throughout, and the crate continues to house its original factory-packed ammunition, preserving the historical integrity and collector appeal of this complete Brazilian military ammunition package.
