The .44 Hot Shot cartridges utilize a shot capsule (often loaded with #7 1/2 or #9 shot) rather than a solid bullet. By removing the choke insert you can also shoot 44 Mag.

I do not believe this barrel meets the ATF definition of a "shotgun" as it does not use normal shotgun shells, however make sure it is legal in your state before purchase.
