Description:
This is a early, good condition socket bayonet that most closely meets the parameters of the 1795 musket bayonet. Over all 18" with a blade of 15 ¼", 3" socket .961" ID, 1 ¼" shank crudely attached to socket, about a 3" flute top point of blade, 1" wide blade, 1 ¾" of the end of the blade is worked nearly flat. This example shows years of dents and dings, mostly colored to gray. I can not find any markings and the elbow is slightly bent forward, moving the blade tip up. Please see photo's for finer detail. ;
