Description: 1850 Officer's Dress Sword By Horstmann of Phila. This sword is in really outstanding condition. The beautifully U.S. etched blade is super condition, however the there is some slight surface graying towards the point. However, there are no nicks, dents or rust spots anywhere. The brass hilt and pommel are perfect and have a lovely aged patina. The leather handle wrap and the spiral brass retaining wire are also perfect. The sheath is fine shape, but there is a small area about 7" up from the top of the tip that a has had a some flexing and while it is fully intact should be treated with care. The estate says that someone dropped small piece of cloth in the scabbard and the sword will not go in the last 1 inch". Certainly someone familiar with swords would able to remove it.
