INTERESTING 19TH CENTURY SWORD, POSSIBLY CONFEDERATE
Description: Albaugh's book on Confederate swords shows a sword with an almost identical blade and similar general configuration. The unstopped fuller starts about 6-7 inches below the guard and is slightly off center to the fuller on the oppisite side of the blade. The wood handle has been painted black and has never had a leather or wire wrap although the handle was originally made to accomodate a leather wrap with wire wrapped as well.. Strongly resembles a Boyle and Gamble made piece but not certain on this one. Definately mid century item made in the early mid 1800s. The brass handle appears to have had a gold gilding at oner tome and where this has worn away you can see there is a high copper content to the brass as it is a red/brown coloration. SH&I on this is $50.00 in the continental U S. Foward any questions you have. Thanks, Mark SOLD |
