Presentation Grade Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer Sword w/ Silver Grip, Eagle Quillon, Silvered Scabbard
Description: Beautiful presentation grade Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer sword with silver grip and eagle head quillon. The detail on this sword is simply exquisite. The ornate hilt has much additional decoration and engraving. Look at the amount of hand chasing and stippling that has been done on the hilt, eagle feathers, and around the facetted “US” in the guard. I also love the winged cherub head on the top of the hilt near the pommel cap. I have never seen this decoration on another sword. The sword shows use but no abuse. As is common on these spiral silver grip swords that have seen use, the silver on the high points of the grip has worn down to the brass. The 32 inch blade is graying and a bit dark, but the etching remains strong and beautiful. The sword is accompanied by its original German silver plated brass scabbard with ornate lace medallion brass mounts and fancy engraved drag. One of the mounts a piece of the medallion decoration is missing, but the mount remains firmly attached. There is no maker or retailer name on the blade, just the word “EISENHAUER” etched on one side of the ricasso. This a German word meaning “iron cutting”. However, the eagle head, silver grip, facetted “US”, and the elaborate drag are like those found on swords made by the Clauberg firm in Soligen, Germany. Please take a look at all the photos as they provide the best description of condition. Shipping to the lower 48 contiguous states. Shipping cost will be $45.00 towards the cost of Priority Mail and insurance (it will cost me more than that). Three day return privilege, buyer pays return shipping. SOLD |
