A great antique diamond willow cane. Created from a single piece of diamond willow, it has a slightly flared handle on top that is about 1 inch in diameter. There are twenty diamonds running down the shaft and that's a lot. The piece was made without a ferrule. (The unusual diamond pattern in this type of willow is caused by a naturally occurring fungus. The raw diamonds are then enhanced by shaping and staining. American Indians have been making these canes for hundreds of years. The particular Diamond Willow trees are indigenous primarily to the Missouri Valley of America. The overall length is 34 3/4 inches and the condition is very good. It was made in the first quarter of the 20th Century, and it is a great example fashioned by Sioux Indians at the Crow Creek Reservation.
